Building and Zoning Technician
This is a new position within the City of Gretna’s Building and Zoning Department responsible for providing information to the public, city staff, and representatives of other agencies on various applications and permits. Work involves researching historical background information pertinent to individual permit applications, performing technical analyses of plans, specifications, and reports; and reviewing construction documents for completeness, accuracy, and conformance to applicable codes, ordinances, and national standards.
The position is accountable for tasks include zoning enforcement, fee collection, property research, and assisting with public hearings, workshops, and policy updates. Strong customer service, confidentiality, and accuracy are essential. This is a full-time position, and you will report to the Development Services Director in the Development Services Department.
Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license, one year of increasingly responsible office/clerical experience that involves public contact in planning, zoning, and building preferred and a minimum of two years of experience in construction, drafting, or planning OR two years of college level courses in related fields, OR any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that indicates the ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
